Anuraag Suhrid Parikh, MD

Stacey Platzman is an Associate in Clinical Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center, specializing in pediatric aural (re)habilitation. Ms. Platzman received her bachelor’s degree in Speech & Hearing Sciences as well as Family Studies Human Development from The University of Arizona. She continued her education with a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. While at UNC, she participated in two grants providing specialized training to work with children with hearing loss and maternal-child health. Before joining CUMC, Ms. Platzman worked with children with hearing loss and other disorders through clinical visits, tele-therapy programs, and early intervention. Her clinical interests lie in the areas of pediatric aural (re)habilitation and early intervention. She is passionate about a family-centered, multidisciplinary team approach to care. Ms. Platzman is licensed in Speech-Language Pathology through New York State and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

Yi Cai, MD is an Assistant Professor and Director of Sleep Surgery at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She is driven by the desire to improve patients’ sleep through innovative clinical and research approaches. As one of the few fellowship-trained sleep surgeons in the New York City area, Dr. Cai has expertise in the diagnosis and surgical management of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). She devotes significant attention to upper airway evaluation in personalizing treatment for her patients and offers the full spectrum of surgical sleep apnea care, ranging from nasal and pharyngeal surgery to skeletal surgery to hypoglossal nerve stimulation (Inspire therapy). Dr. Cai received her undergraduate degree with honors from Harvard College and her medical degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she was awarded the Coakley Memorial Prize and Donald M. Palatucci Prize. She then completed her residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. There, she led quality improvement initiatives as a chief resident, received a Patient Care Fund Award, and served as Co-Chair of the UCSF Resident and Fellow’s Council. Dr. Cai then completed fellowship training in both Sleep Medicine and Sleep Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was selected to attend the AASM Young Investigators Research Forum. Since specializing in sleep surgery, Dr. Cai has given several presentations at the premier global conferences in otolaryngology, sleep medicine, and sleep surgery. As one of <10 fellowship-trained sleep surgeons in the nation with active, peer-reviewed grant funding for sleep apnea research, Dr. Cai’s clinical expertise is uniquely strengthened by her academic experience. She is dedicated to advancing the field of sleep apnea surgery through novel therapeutic target identification and research on the cardiometabolic outcomes of OSA surgery. For this work, Dr. Cai has been supported by competitive grants from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Triological Society, American Heart Association, and Columbia Technology Ventures, as well as awards at international conferences. Additional research interests and ongoing projects include the use of wearable technologies and applying shared decision-making to enhance care in OSA. Dr. Cai has also served on hospital and national academic committees, mentored numerous medical trainees, and reviewed articles for various research journals. She has published over 40 peer-reviewed research articles and textbook chapters, including first-author publications in JAMA Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, SLEEP, and the leading otolaryngology textbooks.

Elliot Regenbogen, MD is an Associate Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology, Head, and Neck Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Regenbogen received his medical degree, with distinction in research, from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. There, he also completed his post-graduate internship in Surgery and Residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. His training included studying at Kurume University, Japan under the mentorship of Professor Minoru Hirano, a foundational figure of modern laryngology concepts including those related to vocal fold form and function. In addition to gaining a global perspective on healthcare delivery, the experience ignited an interest in voice, which became a focus during his residency. At the Ames Vocal Dynamics Laboratory of Lenox Hill Hospital, Dr. Regenbogen performed research and clinical evaluations of voice patients with acoustic analysis as well as stroboscopic imaging of the larynx. The work was done under the mentorship of Dr. Stanley Blaugrund and Dr. Wilbur James Gould, a giant in the care of the professional voice and founder of the Voice Foundation. After his residency, Dr. Regenbogen established his private practice in General Otolaryngology in Mount Kisco, New York. The following seventeen years included leadership as Chief of Otolaryngology at Northern Westchester Hospital from 2001 to 2009. A unique appreciation of the challenges presented to the community, a physician’s ability to provide quality care to patients and their families while incorporating the demands of an evolving health care landscape sparked an inspiration to contribute towards effective change on a broader level. Embarking on a new career path as a full-time academic physician, Dr. Regenbogen joined the Division of Otolaryngology of the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2009. Over the following nine years his accomplishments included the establishment of a dedicated laryngology clinic, the formation of a multidisciplinary motility center for swallowing disorders, research in laryngopharyngeal reflux, the creation of an emergency airway simulation training program and contributions to the founding of an ACGME accredited Otolaryngology residency training program at Stony Brook. He has been a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery since 1991 and the American Academy of Geriatric Otolaryngology since 2010. Committed to the development of effective evidenced based medical practice, he has participated in the Cochrane Scholars Program in 2010 and was a recipient of the Guidelines International Network (G-I-N) Conference AAOHNSF Scholar Grant in 2015. In addition to training residents, he provided mentorship to medical students undertaking a competitively selected four-year research project, the Scholarly Concentration Program of Stony Brook University School of Medicine. Dr. Regenbogen has recently joined the ColumbiaDoctors Otolaryngology faculty practice at CUIMC in 2018, bringing 27 years of experience in General Otolaryngology. He provides both medical and surgical treatment of a broad range of conditions affecting adults and children including basic and complex diseases of the airway, sinuses, as well as the head and neck. Emphasizing a patient-centered approach, his practice will provide medical and surgical treatment for a wide range of adult and pediatric issues. Dr. Regenbogen is available at either of two clinical locations: ColumbiaDoctors Riverdale, Bronx or the main Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus.
