Brett A. Miles, MD, DDS

Brett Miles, DDS, MD, is vice president of otolaryngology for Northwell facilities in New York City boroughs and Westchester County. He is also the chair of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital and Manhattan Ear, Eye Throat Hospital, and the surgical lead of the head and neck disease management team in the Northwell Health Cancer Institute.Dr. Miles manages head and neck tumors, including those of the mouth and throat, with state-of-the-art surgical techniques including microvascular reconstruction. His clinical interests include computerized reconstruction, minimally invasive robotic surgery and HPV-related head and neck cancer."Head and neck cancer can be challenging to treat, but highly meaningful," Dr. Miles says. "The relationships I form with my patients are a source of personal motivation. Seeing them move forward with their lives after treatment is inspiring."Dr. Miles earned a medical degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and a doctorate of dental surgery from Creighton University. He completed residencies in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He received fellowship training in head and neck oncology at the University of Toronto and is board-certified by both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head Neck Surgery.Dr. Miles works collaboratively with a team of experts to offer the highest quality cancer care and access to clinical trials. They include imaging specialists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, nurse practitioners, and speech and swallowing therapists.Dr. Miles is a Professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He has published 170 articles in peer-reviewed journals and often lectures at national and international conferences. He is on the council of the International Association of Oral Oncology, and the American Head and Neck Society's Reconstructive Head and Neck Research Board. He has been a New York Magazine and a New York Metro Area Top Doctor for the last several years.Overall, compassion and empathy are integral to his job. "Undergoing cancer surgery is a very stressful time for patients and families," Dr. Miles says. "My focus is on cancer and the people affected by cancer."
