Ess-a-Bagel was established in 1976 on 1st Avenue in the Gramercy section of Manhattan by Florence and Gene Wilpon and Florence’s brother Aaron Wenzelberg. Coming from an Austrian baking family, it is not surprising that within two years our hand-rolled bagels were voted the best in the Tri-State area. I never take a trip to NY without hitting up Ess-a-bagel for a breakfast sandwich and half a dozen bagels to go. I love the whole wheat everything and the salt bagel. Excellent black and white...

sausage egg and cheese on everything is always the move - hearty size and the bagel was great! Need to try the lox next time and maybe the black and white cookies! Very friendly staff Cheers!

Their bagels are really fresh and tasty. The staff is really nice, and there's even an outdoor sitting area. This is a great place to grab breakfast on the go or sit down for a minute.
