As the Chief of the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) division and the Hillary Rodham Clinton Professor of Women's Health, Dr. Simpson supports a skilled team of physicians with expertise in maternal medicine, critical-care obstetrics, prenatal pediatrics, high-risk deliveries, and research, offering the best maternal and fetal care in the region. She also serves as a leader at CUIMC's Carmen and John Thain Center for Prenatal Pediatrics, where patients with pregnancies complicated by fetal malformations, genetic syndromes, or multiple gestations receive comprehensive, multidisciplinary care in a state-of-the-art facility. As former Director of CUIMC's Ob/Gyn Ultrasound program, she has assembled an outstanding group of sonographers and physicians to provide the best available sonographic imaging to women with high-risk pregnancies. Dr. Simpson's specialized training in fetal echocardiography complements her expertise in prenatal diagnosis. She performs invasive fetal procedures such as chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, fetal blood sampling, and others required in complex cases, including, fetoscopy and laser photocoagulation for twin-twin transfusion syndrome. Dr. Simpson has served on the board of directors for the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, and was a recipient of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award in 2010.

Dr. Monk’s research brings together perinatal psychiatry, developmental psychobiology, and neuroscience to focus on the earliest influences on children’s developmental trajectories — those that happen in utero and how to intervene early to help women and prevent risk for mental health disorders in the future children. Her research has been continuously funded by the NIH since she had her first support as a ‘K’ Career Development awardee in 2001; she also has received funding from the March of Dimes, Johnson & Johnson, the Robin Hood Foundation, the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, and the Bezos Family Foundation. Catherine Monk, PhD, is the inaugural Diana Vagelos Professor of Women’s Mental Health in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Professor of Medical Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and Research Scientist VI at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Monk is also the founding director of Women’s Mental Health @Ob/Gyn, an embedded initiative where she and other mental health professionals help women with stress, depression, anxiety across the lifespan. Carl L. Herndon, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstruction. He is skilled in the operative and nonoperative treatment of hip and knee injuries, including minimally invasive total joint arthroplasty (including anterior approach hip replacement), advanced techniques like robotically assisted total knee replacement, and unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement, as well as the latest approaches to managing periprosthetic joint infection and treatment of periprosthetic fracture.
