Founded in 1794, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office is a part of the government of Onondaga County in New York. It provides a range of law enforcement services to a population of more than 450,000 people. The office employs a work force of over 650 people. It operates a police department that manages felony crimes, intelligence, abused persons, cyber forensic, property, aviation and community response units. The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office s police department offers fire investigation, truth verification, traffic enforcement, facility security, and underwater search and recovery services. It manages a custody department that provides inmate management, pedestrian traffic control and transportation services. The office s civil department offers civil jurisdiction, judgment execution and court orders enforcement services. It also administers the STOPPED Program, which is a voluntary parental notification system that is used to reduce the number of young drivers involved in motor vehicle accidents.
