Shaoli Chaudhuri, MD, MPH

Dr. Chiriboga is Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at CUIMC and former Interim Director of the Division of Child Neurology, Departments of Neurology and Pediatrics, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. She is also former Chief of Pediatric Neurology at Columbia University's affiliate hospital, Harlem Hospital Center. Dr. Chiriboga was born in Peru and educated in Argentina, where she graduated with Honors from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Buenos Aires in 1982. Dr. Chiriboga completed training in pediatrics at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in 1985. After completing her training in child neurology in 1988 at the Neurological Institute and Babies Hospital of Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, Dr. Chiriboga joined the Division of Child Neurology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Subsequently, she completed a Neuroepidemiology fellowship at the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center and received a Master in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University. Dr. Chiriboga serves/has served on committees of the NIH, CNS, and ABPN. She is a diplomate of the ABPN in Child Neurology. Dr. Chiriboga's current research focuses on Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) clinical trials. Past areas of research, including NIH funding, has focused on congenital infections and neurodevelopmental disorders, including cerebral palsy and effects of perinatal exposures. Her clinical practice focuses on neuromuscular disorders as well as developmental, neurobehavioral neurology, and migraine, and on the treatment of spasticity.

Michael J. Pitman MD is Chief of the Division of Laryngology at the Columbia University Medical Center and the Director of The Center For Voice And Swallowing. Dr. Pitman is an internationally recognized expert in voice restoration, conservation and care of the professional voice as well as in the care of swallowing and airway disorders. Dr. Pitman is also a NIH funded clinician scientist who has performed and published extensive research. Dr. Pitman has received numerous grants and patents for pioneering research in the field of Laryngology. Dr. Pitman has been voted by his peers as one of the “Best Doctors in America”, as well as to New York Magazine “Top Doctors” and New York Times “SuperDocs”. He has served as President of the New York Laryngological Society and Secretary of the American Broncho-Esophagological Society and he lectures extensively both nationally and internationally. Dr. Pitman’s areas of clinical expertise include illnesses such as vocal fold paralysis, early laryngeal cancer, cricopharyngeal dysfunction, spasmodic dysphonia, laryngopharyngeal reflux, chronic cough, laryngotracheal stenosis, vocal fold polyps, nodules and cysts. Dr. Pitman is also known for the treatment of many of these disorders with minimally invasive, in-office procedures without the need for general anesthesia. Dr. Pitman received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his otolaryngology residency at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and was a fellow in Laryngology and Care of the Professional Voice at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Gurcharanjeet Kaur, MD is an assistant professor of neurology at CUIMC, in the Division of Child Neurology. Dr. Kaur is a graduate of Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi, India. She completed residency in both pediatric neurology and neuro-oncology at Stony Brook University Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, respectively. Dr. Kaur is a board-certified child neurologist and pediatric neuro-oncologist, with particular expertise in neurofibromatosis (NF) and NF-related tumors, cancer related neurotoxicity, and tumor targeted therapy for low grade gliomas. Dr. Kaur is dedicated to helping children while minimizing the toxicities and residual deficits by providing the highest quality of care and access to recent advances in the field. Dr. Kaur remains committed to clinical and pre-clinical research. She has been involved in the clinical trials as a site principal investigator and co-investigator. She mentors’ residents, fellows, and medical students interested in the field of child neurology and neuro-oncology.
