Inside the Museum of Modern Art are some of the most famous masterpieces the world has ever known. In a spacious, light-filled building in Midtown Manhattan, the museum's permanent collection attracts new and repeat visitors again and again, while their temporary exhibits inspire art-focused conversations to ripple throughout the city for weeks. For artists, art lovers, and anyone wishing to witness the fruits of creative genius, the MoMA is the museum to see.

Best and worst time to go to the Museum of Modern Art
Weekends draw large crowds, especially when a new exhibit opens. Some temporary exhibits require advance ticket purchase, and the most popular ones may sell out. Admission is free on Friday evenings from 4-8 p.m., but the number of people can make navigating the galleries difficult.

Must see/do at the Museum of Modern Art
Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night" is MoMA's darling and the work most likely to be surrounded by a small mob. "The Swimming Pool" has returned to the museum after two decades off view; Henri Matisse made this cut-out for his apartment in France and now an entire gallery is dedicated to it. "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon" is Pablo Picasso's vivid depiction of five naked women in a Barcelona brothel.

Admission to the Museum of Modern Art
Adult admission is $25. Discounts are available for students and seniors. Children under 16 and members get in free; guests of members pay $5. Free Friday admission includes all galleries, exhibitions and films. Students from select New York City colleges get in for free. MoMA tickets can be presented for entry to MoMA PS1 within 14 days.

Parking and public transportation at the Museum of Modern Art
Several subways and buses stop near the museum. Discounted parking is available for members and visitors at nearby garages. Tickets can be validated at the ticket counter.

Food at the Museum of Modern Art
The MoMA offers three dining options. Café 2 is a casual Italian restaurant suitable for a quick meal in a family-friendly setting. Terrace 5 overlooks the sculpture garden and serves wine, cocktails and micro-brewed beers to complement its seasonal menu. The Modern is a Michelin-starred restaurant and the only eatery open after museum hours.

Insider tip for visitors to the Museum of Modern Art
Make a list of the pieces that you can't miss and let that be your guide. Start on the top floor and work your way down. Going without a plan may result in missing some of the museum's best treasures.
