In the large dealer environment YOU have to fund the salesman, the sales manager (the guy your salesman disappears to get permission for the sale from because your deal is just too good for him to authorize alone.) the greeter, the service tech the service manager the office employee's and the owner whom you likely will never see. None of this adds value to your vehicle but certainly adds cost. Real estate is another large cost difference. Here in Harpursville, you only need to pay for the vehicle not the real estate it's parked on. You will deal direct with the owner. You likely will own and pay for your vehicle for 3 to 5 years.
