Buchanan Misty A PA

For nearly 50 years, my mother was a nurse in OB-GYN surgery. She inspired me, from the time I was very young, to pursue a career in the medical profession. I was a respiratory therapist for 10 years and, during that time, my love for medicine grew and has led me back to my hometown to provide care to my community. \n My approach to healthcare is one of compassion, care and respect. I believe being able to communicate plainly and openly with patients and gaining their trust allows us, as a team, to confidently make good medical decisions. It's always my goal to deliver superior care and work to improve the quality of life for each and every patient I see. \n I'm married to my best friend who has supported me and been there for me through everything, and we have three amazing children. I love coaching my twins in baseball at Walkertown Little League. Also, I love hunting with my oldest son and spending time in the outdoors.

My decision to go into healthcare was based on several factors. I was strongly influenced by the poor health of my paternal grandparents and the many evenings I spent with them at the hospital. In addition, my maternal grandmother's 13-year journey with Alzheimer's disease profoundly affected me. Those circumstances, combined with my passion to care for and teach others, led to my career choice. \n I gravitated toward primary care because it allows me to form impactful, lasting relationships with my patients. I enjoy caring for them, teaching them and learning from them. \n My approach to healthcare is one of empathy, respect and honesty. I want you to feel comfortable asking me questions and to understand your own health and to be confident in the decisions we make about your health and wellness. \n I'm proud to be a member of the Pi Alpha National Honor Society for PA students and graduates. Membership is based on academic achievements, leadership, research and community and professional service. \n When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going for walks and reading on my Kindle. I also love travel, and my favorite meal is dessert.
