My father was a neonatologist. When I was young, I would often visit the hospital with him to see the sick babies in his care. That inspired me to become a pediatrician myself. My three younger siblings also followed our father's footsteps into the medical field, so you can say caring for others is truly the family business. \n I love working with children each day; they are so curious, full of energy and excited about the world around them. I enjoy caring for children of all ages, and have special interest in premature babies, as well as children with behavior concerns such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I believe in letting kids be kids. They are stronger than we think and a lot of times they are able to work things out for themselves if we stay out of their way. I see my role as understanding when to give them that freedom, and when intervention is necessary. When you have a concern with your child, we will get to the bottom of it, and we will avoid unnecessary medications or procedures while we do that. \n I grew up in central Florida and met my wife, Morgan, in medical school. I completed a pediatric residency here in North Carolina, and fell in love with the weather and people here. We are happy to call the Winston-Salem area home, and enjoy taking our son and our dog to local parks and swimming pools, and on adventures to find delicious North Carolina barbecue.

Both my parents in the medical profession so, I observed first-hand the fulfillment they got from caring for their patients and their families. They were an inspiring example. Neither pushed me into medicine, but I wanted the same satisfaction they got from their careers. \n I was drawn to surgery as an avenue to impact someone's health after - and even before - the procedure. Surgery, and specifically colorectal surgery, is a field with plentiful opportunities to help patients with issues ranging from inflammatory bowel disease to cancer to diverticulitis. \n Being a physician allows me to blend my love of science and my desire to help people lead healthier lives. Medicine connects people with science - and, for me, there's nothing better. \n I want to be part of my patients' journeys to better health, so I approach healthcare in a patient-driven manner. I work to ensure my patients understand their diagnosis and the treatment plan we develop together. (I always want my patients to be actively engaged in their care.) My commitment to continuous learning, skill development and attention to detail leads to good outcomes and patient satisfaction. \n I'm a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. \n My wife, Katherine, and I live in Winston-Salem with our son and daughter. Outside the office, there's no one I'd rather spend time with than my family - and our dog. We enjoy playgrounds, hiking and walking and all types of sports - whether we're playing or just watching. I also enjoy cooking and grilling for a big group of family and friends.
