Donald L. Budenz, MD, MPH

I contribute my passions to treating glaucoma and other areas of expertise in the field. Recognizing the enduring nature of glaucoma, I enjoy engaging with patients to explore tailored treatment options. From experience in private practice and academia, my proficiency extends to medical and surgical glaucoma interventions, including laser procedures, trabeculectomy, tube shunts, and minimally invasive surgeries.

My training background is in ophthalmology in Hungary and neurology in the United States. I completed my neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta, GA. Prior to joining UNC Ophthalmology, my cross-disciplinary expertise applied to a range of physician roles in neuro-ophthalmology, neurology, and neuroimaging. Aside from professional activities, I enjoy traveling and various sport activities. I love to create and nurture bonsai, an activity that ties in with my other passion of meditation.
