Yolanda Shae Burkett, OT - UNC Therapy Services

I became a Physical Therapist to help make a difference in the lives of all who have been affected by illness, injury and disease. My specialty is in pelvic health rehabilitation. I enjoy providing alternative ways to address issues and concerns that many in our society are experiencing and offering solutions to improve quality of life.

I became a physical therapist because I love using movement as medicine. I shifted my focus from orthopedics to specializing in pelvic floor physical therapy because this is such an underserved area. My passion is working with perinatal populations and supporting birthing people in finding optimal quality of life as they navigate each transformational stage of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum experience. My goal is to work with patients to meet their individual goals and feel confident in their daily life.

I became a physical therapist following a career as an athletic trainer. I wanted to help a broader, more diverse population improve their participation, function, and quality of life, while building on my foundation. I was drawn to the specialty of pelvic health due to the complex/intricate nature of it and the powerful impact pelvic PT can have on a patient’s quality of life and function. I enjoy the puzzle of the human body. I approach my patient care with a zoomed-out lens, taking a holistic, patient-centered approach. I am passionate about empowering individuals about their health and anatomy, especially as it relates to pelvic health. When I am not at work, I enjoy being outdoors, hiking, working out, traveling and spending time with my family.
