Charles Hickey, MD

Dr. James A. McHale is Director of Cataract Surgery at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates and has been with our practice since 2004. He was born the fifth of five children in Cleveland, Ohio. Having been in practice for nearly two decades, he has grown to understand the great privilege and responsibility that comes with being an eye surgeon. Dr McHale received undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology from Miami University, where he also minored in Neuroscience. He went on to attend medical school and complete his residency at the Ohio State University, where he served as President of the Medical School Student Council. He also founded, managed, and played on the OSU medical soccer team.

Raised in Marysville, Ohio, Dr. William Burns joined Columbus Ophthalmology Associates in 2020. After graduating from The Ohio State University College of Optometry, Dr. Burns completed a residency at the Chillicothe and Columbus Veterans Affairs Medical Centers. Dr. Burns is a clinical professor at The Ohio State University and is a Diplomate of the American Boards of Optometry. He provides comprehensive primary and medical eye care. He also participates in pre and post-operative management care. Dr. Burns fits contact lenses including specialty contacts, such as scleral contact lenses for keratoconus, corneal scars and dry eye disease. He has a certification for the management of myopia with contact lenses.

Swarupa Kancherla, MD is a board certified, fellowship-trained cornea surgeon who specializes in cataracts, corneal transplantation, refractive surgery, and dry eye disease. She also offers comprehensive care for a variety of eye conditions including pterygia, glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration. Dr. Kancherla has lectured throughout the country and presented at international meetings hosted by organizations like the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She has also authored publications in multiple peer-reviewed journals, including Cornea and Ophthalmology.
