Located in Newark, Ohio, it is a nonprofit community based organization offering professional palliative and end-of-life care to patients and families residing in Licking, Muskingum, Perry, Knox and Fairfield counties in Ohio. Founded in 1982 and funded exclusively by private donations, it is a Medicare and Medicaid certified center. It is a member of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, Ohio Hospice and Palliative Care organization and the Hospice Alliance of Ohio. It has more than 150 volunteers and staff of over 100 paid professionals serving patients with terminal illnesses in their homes, nursing homes and assisted living centers. Its Selma Markowitz Care Center provides 24-hour care by trained hospice professional staff, and has more than seven private rooms that have whirlpool baths, kitchens, living rooms and children's play area.
