A proud native of eastern Oklahoma County, LaToya Smith, DO launched a career in the medical field as a teen volunteer at SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital. She went on to graduate magna cum laude from Prairie View A&M University in the Houston area before attending medical school at the Oklahoma State College of Osteopathic Medicine. She returned to St. Anthony Hospital to complete her residency, during which time she served as chief resident.
