John Herbst, DO - Allegheny Clinic Medical Oncology

Nathan Bahary MD, PhD received his B.A. from Cornell University, an M.D. from the Cornell University School of Medicine, and his Ph.D. from the Rockefeller University. He completed his residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He did his postgraduate training at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital system before joining the faculty of UPMC as the Director of the Pancreatic Cancer Center. Since 2021, he is the Division Chief of Medical Oncology at AHN Cancer Institute and Director of AHNCI Clnical Research. Amongst his various appointments Dr. Bahary is a member of the NCI Pancreatic Task Force, the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) where he serves on the ECOG GI Steering Committee and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) His basic research interests lie in the intersection between gastrointestinal development, metabolic stress pathways, immunology, and cancer. He has a broad research background in cancer genetics, developmental biology, molecular biology, and clinical investigations, with specific training and expertise in key research areas broadly within the field of gastrointestinal oncology, and specifically within pancreatic cancer. Building on his work at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Bahary is using insights gained by studying vertebrate development to determine how cancers grow. Clinical trials emanating from this research will continue at AHN Cancer Institute and are expected to lead to the development of new targeted agents and immunologic strategies for treating cancer.

Shifeng S Mao, MD, PhD, is the chair of the AHN Cancer Institute urological oncology team. His practice and research focus on genitourinary cancers, including prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, and testicular cancer. He is an Associate Professor Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Mao is an active researcher and the principal investigator of many clinical trials. He has active collaborations with colleagues from Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center and Carnegie Mellon University. He is the recipient of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Young Investigator Award. He has published many research studies in medical journals and presented his findings at national conferences. His experience in cancer research gives him a unique perspective and insight into the biology of cancer, which enhances his clinical care with patients. Dr. Mao earned his medical degree from Beijing Medical University and his doctorate in medical pathology from University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He completed his residency at New York University School of Medicine and continued his studies through a fellowship at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston/MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Sushma Kola, MD Sushma Kola, MD, is a movement disorders neurologist and Director of Integrative Neurosciences with the AHN Neuroscience Institute. She specializes in integrative and complementary medicine, tremor, Parkinson’s disease and related disorders, dystonia, and ataxia. She provides patient-centered, team-based care for neurology. Dr. Kola went to medical school at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She did her residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where she served as Chief Resident. She completed dual fellowships in movement disorders and integrative medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Kola is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology and Movement Disorders Society. She has several peer-reviewed publications and has spoken nationally and internationally. Dr. Kola employs a holistic approach combining traditional medical treatments with evidence-based complementary therapies to improve quality of life for her patients and their caregivers. She sees patients ages 18 and older.
