Mary E Burriss, MD

Dr. Lara Massie is a neurosurgeon specializing in spinal surgery for adult spinal deformities, scoliosis, trauma, and tumors. Her research focuses on improving the patient experience and surgical techniques that are associated with the best patient outcomes. She is skilled and experienced in both minimally invasive and complex open surgery, including robotic-assisted surgery and spinal revision surgery. Her philosophy is to align the patient’s goals with the non-operative and surgical techniques best suited to reach that outcome. Dr. Massie completed her undergraduate work in neuroscience at New York University, and received her medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio. She completed a neurosurgery residency at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and a fellowship in Adult Spinal Deformity at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. She is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

Dr. Justin Luhovey specializes in treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, injuries, and fractures, with a focus on sports medicine. He performs physicals for high school athletes to clear them to participate in sports. He also treats concussions. Dr. Luhovey received a medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He completed a residency and a sports medicine fellowship at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Allegheny County Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Physicians. He is accredited by the American Board of Internal Medicine and has a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Sports Medicine.

Dr. Fernando is director of thoracic surgery at Allegheny General Hospital and Professor of Surgery, Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Fernando is experienced in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic procedures for the lung, esophagus, and mediastinum. He is also skilled in endoscopic procedures such as POEM (peroral endoscopic myotomy) and TIF (transoral incisionless fundoplication) for gastroesophageal reflux. He treats patients for lung cancer, esophageal cancer, gastroesophageal reflux, achalasia, mediastinal tumors, and myasthenia gravis. Dr. Fernando believes every patient faces a different set of challenges in managing their disease, with differences in severity, symptoms, and overall risk factors. He partners with his patients to help them select a treatment that balances the three goals of best outcome, minimizing risks, and preserving quality of life. He received a medical degree from Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine at the University of London in England, and completed residencies in California at Harbor-UCLA, UC Irvine, and UC Davis. He gained further training through a fellowship in minimally invasive thoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh. He is a member of the American Association of Thoracic Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the American Surgical Association.
