Smithfield Police Department
The Smithfield Police Department, established in 1950, is a law enforcement agency that preserves peace, protects residents lives and their property, arrests law violators and enforces measures to prevent crime. It provides crime statistics, court dispositions and accident reports. The department also provides various online crime statistics and maps, as well as crime reporting applications. The Smithfield Police Department employs a staff of more than 50 full-time sworn officers, civilians and community volunteers. It is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Smithfield Police Department, located in Smithfield, R.I., serves various writs, processes, orders, subpoenas and other civil papers for local courts and other county and state departments.
