Dr. Rick Silver is a professor of medicine and pediatrics and has served as director of the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology since 1995. In 2007, he was named distinguished university professor, the highest academic rank bestowed at MUSC. The division has seen remarkable growth in all facets, including extramural research funding, clinical services, and fellowship training during his tenure as division director. Under his direction, the Division of Rheumatology has been consistently ranked among the top 20 programs by U.S. News and World Report.Dr. Silver's research interests center on scleroderma and, in particular, scleroderma lung disease, now a major cause of death among patients with scleroderma. He and his colleagues were the first to utilize bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) to characterize scleroderma lung disease. He played an instrumental role in the design and development of the Scleroderma Lung Study I and II. Dr. Silver helped to initiate and develop MUSC’s pulmonary hypertension center and sarcoidosis center. Dr. Silver serves as associate director of a multidisciplinary clinical research center (MCRC) for the study of rheumatic diseases in African-Americans funded by NIAMS. Dr. Silver’s clinical interests include scleroderma and scleroderma-related conditions, as well as childhood rheumatic diseases. MUSC Health is one of the world’s leaders in clinical care and investigation of systemic sclerosis (scleroderma) and scleroderma-like conditions, e.g. eosinophilic fasciitis and the eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome. MUSC Health also serves as the state of South Carolina's only referral center for childhood rheumatic diseases. Dr. Silver has led the efforts to coordinate care for children in South Carolina with rheumatic diseases for the past 32 years,FALSE, and he continues to provide clinical care and conduct clinical research with Dr. Tasha Ruth, whose primary appointment is in the Department of Pediatrics.

Dr. Kelli Williams has joined West Ashley Primary Care providing allergy and immunology services. She earned her BA in chemistry at Colgate University, her M.D. from Tulane University School of Medicine, and her MPH in international health and development from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She completed her residency in pediatrics at MUSC and her fellowship in allergy and immunology at the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. While in fellowship, her research focused on rare immunologic and allergic diseases in both children and adults. Dr. Williams is comfortable seeing patients of all ages. Her clinical interests include allergic rhinitis and sinus disease, asthma, anaphylaxis and mastocytosis, drug allergy, eczema and contact dermatitis, eosinophilic disease, food allergy, recurrent infection, and urticaria and angioedema. Dr. Williams has a particular interest in evaluating patients with possible immune deficiency or immune dysregulation.

Dr. Winton earned her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine where she played lacrosse and golf, serving as captain in both sports in her senior year. She then graduated from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire. She completed her residency in emergency medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina and then joined the faculty at MUSC after completing fellowship in primary care sports medicine at the Greenville Health System Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas. During her fellowship, she served as a team physician for the North Greenville University and Converse College athletic programs, the Greenville Drive minor league baseball team, USA Karate, and Travelers Rest High School, in addition to covering multiple endurance events. Dr. Winton splits her clinical time between the emergency department, sports medicine clinic, event coverage, and serving as a team physician for the College of Charleston athletics. She enjoys treating athletes and performers of all levels. She has specific interests in emergent orthopedic/sports medicine conditions and injuries, ultrasound applications in sports medicine, and medical education. Dr. Winton frequently performs the following procedures: joint injections, ultrasound-guided joint injections, soft tissue/bursal injections, trigger point injections, regenerative medicine injections (PRP platelet-rich plasma), diagnostic ultrasound, and exercise counseling and program design. Dr. Winton also enjoys giving back to the community in other days, including volunteering with her husband at One80 Place and Habitat for Humanity and supporting Charleston Youth Development Center. She lives in the Charleston area with her husband and daughter.
