I received my medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College in India, graduating in 1984. After an internship I served as a flight surgeon in the Indian Air Force. After moving to the US I did my residency in Internal Medicine from Wayne State University, followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine from Yale University. I was on faculty at UPMC and held leadership positions in academic pulmonary medicine at Brown University and most recently at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine at Chattanooga. I am boarded in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine and will be accepting patients with sleep and pulmonary complaints. I have an administrative interest in programmatic development and optimizing access to cost-efficient, evidence-based, ethical care for the community.

Dr. Abhay Varma is faculty in neurosurgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his residency in India and fellowships in brain tumor surgery and spine surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Toronto, and the Cleveland Clinic. He specializes in managing adult brain tumors, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation, adult spinal and spine tumors, and peripheral nerve disorders, including children with brachial plexus injuries (neonatal brachial plexopathy). His surgical practice offers microsurgery and endoscopic surgery. He also offers brain mapping and awake craniotomies for patients with brain tumors in eloquent areas, like the motor strip, the speech areas, and perisylvian tumors.
