Originally from Chapin, South Carolina, Michael Cryer, MD, earned his medical degree at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia. He then completed both an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Prisma Health in the Midlands. After two more fellowships - interventional cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and structural heart in Tucson, Arizona - he returned to Columbia to practice both general cardiology and interventional cardiology. Dr. Cryer specializes in catheter-based procedures, including heart stenting for patients having heart attacks or chest pains. He also focuses on structural cardiology, where he can fix heart valves with minimally invasive procedures. He loves cardiology because of the long-term patient/physician relationship.
