Dr. Funke is a native of Summerville, SC, where he grew up and attended Summerville High School. He remained in the area to pursue his undergraduate degree at the College of Charleston, where he studied biology and founded the college’s club tennis team. He moved on to the Medical University of South Carolina to study medicine. He graduated with a Doctorate of Medicine in 2007 from medical school and decided to stay near the ocean for training in internal medicine in Charleston. Emily Hodskins, MD
Dr. Hodskins grew up in the small mountain town of Blue Ridge, Georgia. She received a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Georgia in 2011. She attended medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis, Tennessee. She then moved to Charleston where she completed both her internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Hodskins is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, traveling, and watching college football.

Chris McCarty, MD
Dr. McCarty was born and raised in Arkansas and after attending Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, he decided on medicine as a career. He earned his Doctorate degree in Medicine from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock prior to expanding his horizons on the east coast. He fell in love with Charleston and completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was fortunate enough to be able to remain in Charleston for fellowship training in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at MUSC.
