BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is an independent, nonprofit organization governed by its own board of directors. It is also part of a nationwide association of health care plans, the BlueCross BlueShield Association, which licenses the company to offer certain products and services under the BlueCross and BlueShield names. The company is committed to remaining an independent, locally governed health plan company. This allows the group to maintain integrity in all aspects of their business. Because of the affiliation, customers have access to the same health benefits whether they live in Tennessee or travel out of state. By implementing an accredited HIPAA program and applying other security features, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee works to help protect the privacy and rights of everyone they serve, such as members, providers and its broker partners. BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is headquartered in Chattanooga, but has offices in Memphis, Jackson, Knoxville and Nashville, Tenn.
