The Chattanooga Housing Authority, chartered in 1938, is a public nonprofit corporation. It was formed under the Tennessee Housing Authorities Law and carries out public housing and urban development programs as its primary activities. It is governed by a seven-member board of commissioners appointed by the mayor of Chattanooga and it has a workforce of more than 200 employees. There are over 10 active resident associations under the housing authority and approximately 40 agencies that provide resident services on- and off-site. The Chattanooga Homeless Coalition (CRHC) is a dedicated organization in Southeast Tennessee that strives to prevent and put an end to homelessness in the region. They firmly believe that everyone deserves a safe and stable place to call home, and they work tirelessly to make this a reality. As the lead agency for the area's Continuum of Care (CoC), CRHC applies for federal funding on behalf of local agencies committed to ending homelessness. They utilize a database called the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) to efficiently track services provided to individuals experiencing homelessness. Additionally, CRHC conducts an annual point-in-time count to better understand the issue and ensure that the voices of those affected are heard.
