The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) has been serving the community of Seymour, TN for over 50 years, providing fire protection and emergency services to over 18,600 homes, 400 businesses, and numerous schools and churches across three Tennessee counties. With a total response area of approximately 118.6 square miles, SVFD has grown from its humble beginnings with 12 firefighters and a single engine to a well-equipped department with six stations, 26 pieces of equipment, and a dedicated team of over 60 volunteers who responded to 2,391 calls in 2020.

Originally formed by local business owners in 1971, SVFD has witnessed the transformation of Seymour from family farms to bustling subdivisions, necessitating the widening of highways and the establishment of shopping districts. The department's commitment to creating a better and safer community is evident in its continuous growth, expansion of stations, and acquisition of additional engines to meet the increasing call volume, which reached 800 calls per year by 1991.
