HistoryIn 1974, Matthew made his first piece of jewelry at just 14 years old in Mrs. Olmstead's art class. She recognized his talent at a young age and pushed him to pursue his gift. He began an apprenticeship at Running Buffalo Silver Gallery at 16 years old where he was given stones and silver to design and make unique pieces. In 1978, Matthew started at the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, CA where he would be the youngest to graduate in his class at just 19 years old. He worked as a jeweler at various studios in Dallas over the next decade, gaining even more experience and perfecting his craft alongside great mentors. In 1988, Matthew quit his job to pursue his dream of opening his own studio and started Matthew Trent Jewelry with his wife, Lori, at their booth in the World Trade Center. Matthew and Lori Trent opened their first freestanding location of Matthew Trent Jewelry on Maple Ave in 1993...and the rest is history!SpecialtiesFor over 30 years, Matthew Trent Inc. has established a reputation for unique, one-of-a-kind pieces and signature collections, taking an exceptional yet approachable spin on fine jewelry.
