Established in 1936, Zavala Elementary School serves students in prekindergarten through grade six. The school offers several reading recovery and after-school enrichment programs. Its academic curriculum includes math, science, reading, writing, social studies and language arts. Zavala Elementary School conducts gifted and talented education programs and provides special education services for students with dyslexia. It operates a parent-teacher association that supports and sponsors a variety of school events and activities and conducts monthly conferences. In addition, the school operates band, orchestra and other extracurricular clubs. It is a part of the Austin Independent School District, which operates various elementary, middle and high schools.
