Stephen Warner , MD, PhD

Steven E. Flores, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon focused on providing exceptional care for all of his patients. Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery with an additional certificate of added qualification in orthopedic sports medicine, Flores has over 15 years of experience specializing in knee, shoulder, and sports medicine injuries with an emphasis on arthroscopy and minimally invasive techniques. He treats athletes and nonathletes of all ages who have sustained injuries or are experiencing issues they feel need evaluation.Hes also an assistant professor and the program director of the Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Fellowship in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.Flores served as the head team physician for the Houston Rockets for over 10 years and is currently the head team orthopedist for the Houston Texans. He also provides orthopedic care for numerous schools around the Houston area.He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. Hes also a member of the NFL Physicians Society.Flores received his undergraduate degree with honors from Texas A&M University. He attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and completed a general surgery internship and an orthopedic surgery residency at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.

Karl Schmitt, MD, is an assistant professor of neurosurgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and is board certified by the American Association of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Schmitt is a graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; he completed a five-year neurosurgery residency at the same institution. In 2005, he completed the Yale Comprehensive Spinal Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven.

Growing up in a large farming family in Iowa, Dr. Daniel Freet did manual labor with his five siblings, managing fields and working with pigs and cows. I liked it because we had to do it all together as a group; it was a social thing.Today, he still enjoys a collaborative environment in the Surgical Department at UTHealth Houston. Together, we take care of a lot of trauma patients, and for many of them, there are several follow up surgeries and appointments. You get to know their families and share in the process.Freet knew he wanted to be a doctor when he was a child. Staying up late to watch the television show MASH with his father, he was inspired by the Hawkeye Pierce character. After getting a degree in anthropology at the University of Iowa, he stayed at the university’s medical school. But I knew I couldnt handle the cold up there any longer, so I applied for every residency program in Texas, he said, choosing UT.In his spare time, Freet fosters dogs and has a few dogs of his own. Im lucky. Im doing exactly what I wanted to do with my life.Dr. Freet was recently listed as a 2021 Top Doctor by Houstonia Magazine for plastic and reconstructive surgery.
