Halle G. Sobel, MD, is an internal medicine physician at the University of Vermont Medical Center. She care of adult with a variety of diseases including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, asthma, COPD, GERD and heart failure. She also frequently conducts age appropriate cancer screenings as part of preventative health care. She cares for patients with opioid use disorder and helps these individuals in their recovery from the chronic disease of addiction. Dr. Sobel understands that patients value a physician who knows them well and can help them navigate the complex health care system. She finds it rewarding to not only diagnose and manage medical problems but to listen closely and provide patient-centered care based on the values of the patient. “I may not be able to cure many diseases I see, but I can accompany my patients on their journey of living with their disease,” she says, adding that her long-term relationships with patients allows her to align care with their goals and expectations. Dr. Sobel also serves as associate program director for the internal medicine residency program and is an associate professor of medicine for UVM’s Larner College of Medicine. This position allows her to work closely with and mentor trainees. Her research interests include medical education, curricular development, health disparities, population health, addiction medicine and ambulatory quality improvement.
