Established in 1924, Northern Virginia Family Service is a private, nonprofit organization that is recognized by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children and is a member of the Alliance for Children and Families. The organization supports an eviction prevention program that is comprised of housing services that provide emergency financial assistance for low-income facing a housing crisis. In addition, it supports housing counseling programs that help individuals and families to become self-reliant through the development of budgeting and money management skills. The organization maintains an office in Woodbridge, Va. Northern Virginia Family Service is funded by foundation grants, individual and corporate donations, government contracts, counseling fees and the United Way.
