Hoover & Strong s original venture was the recovery of platinum from industrial light bulbs. The company refined the metal and sold it to local platinumsmiths. As sales expanded and the supply of industrial platinum scrap diminished, the company started purchasing platinum and eventually scrap gold jewelry. In 9127, Hoover & Strong developed various repair products such as sizing wire, half round, square and flat wire. Jay Hoover and Harry Strong founded Hoover & Strong in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1912. Hoover & Strong relocated to Richmond, Va., in 1979.
