Pocahontas

Pocahontas is a historical coal mining town located in Tazewell County, Virginia. Named after the Algonquian Indian woman Pocahontas, it was the starting point of the region's coal boom in the 1880s and played a significant role in the development of the Norfolk and Western Railroad.

The town is home to the Pocahontas Exhibition Mine and Museum, a National Historic Landmark recognized as Virginia's official coal heritage zone. With a population of 389 as of the 2010 census, Pocahontas is part of the Bluefield, WV-VA micropolitan area, which boasts a larger population of 107,578.
