The University Place City Council s members are directly elected by the citizens and serves for four-year terms in the city of University Place in Washington. The city council establishes policy by enacting ordinances and resolutions that are determined to reflect the needs of the community. The University Place City Council appoints the city manager, adopts the city budget, approves appropriations and contracts in the city's name, levies taxes and enacts franchises. The council is a part of the government of the city of University Place, which was incorporated in 1995. The city of University Place has a population of more than 30,000 people. University Place schools are a combination of private and public schools in the University Place and Tacoma School Districts.
