Otto Charles (O.C.) Cluss founded his lumber company in 1918 in Uniontown, PA.The company incorporated in 1919 and O.C. was elected president and general manager, a position he would hold for 40 years.In the 1960's, O.C.?s sons, John and Charles, and their brother-in-law,C. J. Barnes, established O. C. Cluss Lumber as a significant supplier of construction and building materials in western Pennsylvania. In 1972, they opened a modern home center across from their old lumberyard in Uniontown.In 1970, as Charles' sons began to join the company a new era in Cluss history began. Under Charles' guidance, the current generation has taken their grandfather's lumberyard and evolved it into the O. C. Cluss Lumber of today.A second yard was opened in Greensburg, PA in 1986 followed by a third facility in Aliquippa, PA in 1990. In 1997, Cluss purchased Brown Lumber Yards in West Virginia with locations in Fairmont and Summersville. In the late 1997, a modern $3 million pro-yard and distribution center was built in Pleasant Valley, WV replacing the old Brown's yard in Fairmont.Cluss Lumber expanded into Oakland, MD in June of 2001 with the purchase of Fred E. Beachy Lumber. In 2002, Cluss opened its professional installation group (CPI) in Uniontown. CPI installs framing, roofing, plumbing, siding, insulation, gutter, cultured stone, millwork and other building materials for Cluss professional customers.In September of 2005, Cluss built a $3.5 million pro-yard and door shop facility in Oakland replacing the original facility.In June of 2006, Cluss acquired Fox Glass Company in Uniontown, PA. Fox specializes in commercial contract glazing and architectural aluminum in the tri-state area and has annual revenues in excess of $3 million. FGC is one of the region's largest architectural aluminum and glazing contractors.Today, O. C. Cluss is firmly established as a major regional supplier in the lumber and building materials industry. In the May 2014 issue of Pro Sales magazine, Cluss was ranked as the #59 largest lumber and building material supplier in the USA.O.C. Cluss continues as a privately held business. Christopher Cluss is Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of the O.C. Cluss Group and his brother Michael Cluss is Vice President. The company employs 265 people in the tri-state area.
