Crossroads Baptist Church had its beginning on October 9, 1955. Ninety two members chartered Church and it was designated as Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church. The charter members and others of the congregation first met in a tent located on the present parking lot. The educational section of the building was built in 1956, the main auditorium was added in 1966. A gym also serving as a fellowship hall was added in 1970. Improvements have been made since that time and the building has been well maintained. Church presently helps in the support of 34 missionaries and missions with an annual missions budget of $24, 600.00. The missionaries are representing the Lord Jesus Christ through the aide of Church around the world. The constitution of church was drafted shortly after being chartered and it calls for the use of the King James Version of the Bible by all preachers and teachers. church does not believe the KJV to be the original manuscripts but is of the opinion that it is the preserved Word of God for English speaking people. Pastor Jack K. Mayes came to serve on September 7, 1980 and fills that position at this present time. Pastor Mayes' studies include two years of Bible School through Bethany Bible School of Dothan, Alabama. Pastor Mayes also has an earned Masters degree and a Doctorate of Theology from Bethany Bible College and Theological Seminary of Dothan, Alabama. His studies also include Luther Rice Seminary of Florida. Studies in Greek and associated studies were from Tri-State Bible College in South Point, Ohio. Pastor Mayes is on the teaching staff at Southland Bible Institute of Ashland, Ky. Pastor Mayes was saved on August 27, 1967. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Temple of Saint Albans, West Virginia, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. It was from this church that he was ordained to the gospel ministry. Pastor Mayes is married to the former Patricia R. Tucker. She is the daughter of Cecil & Opal Tucker, a Baptist Minister for nearly 60 years at the time the Lord called him home. Pastor and Mrs. Mayes have four children and six grandchildren. They celebrate their wedding anniversary on November 5th. Pastor Mayes claims Psalm 121: 8 as a verse of Scripture which has been a source of great comfort in the times of distress and trouble. "The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore."
