Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial

The Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group, Inc. is a non-profit organization established in 2011 to create a permanent memorial for the twenty-nine miners who tragically lost their lives in an explosion at the Upper Big Branch Coal Mine on April 5th, 2010. Through successful fundraising efforts, the group exceeded its goal of $500,000 and collaborated with Rob Dinsmore and Chapman Technical Group to design and construct the memorial and surrounding plaza, which was completed in 2012.

The Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial serves as a poignant tribute to the fallen miners and stands as a testament to their sacrifice. Located in Orgas, West Virginia, the memorial was built under the management of Pray Construction and was dedicated during a ceremony on July 27th, 2012. The organization's mission is to honor the memory of the miners and provide a place of remembrance for the community.
