We practice law one on one. We each work in a one-person office, so there are no assistants, associates, or paralegals to get between you and your lawyer. We provide personal bankruptcy advice, counsel, and representation to individual clients and small businesses throughout southern Wisconsin. Most of our practice is devoted to helping debtors file bankruptcy cases. We also help clients with other debt-related problems by filing Chapter 128 petitions or negotiating debt settlements with creditors. Chapter 7. This type of consumer bankruptcy can be filed by any person or business. Although bankruptcy reform laws in 2005 changed the requirements for this type of filing, most people still qualify. We take our clients through the process of preparing to file and filing. We teach our clients about their exempt assets and how to use the bankruptcy laws to gain the maximum relief from harassing creditors. Chapter 13. This is the second most common type of bankruptcy. It is used by individuals, usually for the purpose of saving a house or car from repossession. In a Chapter 13, debts are restructured, allowing a three to five year period of relief with a focus on manageable repayment of debt. Chapter 11. This is a form of debt reorganization often used by businesses, partnerships, limited liability companies, and corporations of any size. It helps save jobs and keep businesses going at the same time that it grants relief. These cases are complex and require very experienced legal counsel. Chapter 12. This special bankruptcy chapter was enacted in 1986. It has specialized provisions designed to enable farmers to restructure their debt and continue farming. While these proceedings are comparatively rare, we have a great deal of experience in Chapter 12 cases. Chapter 128 of the Wisconsin Statutes. By the use of the provisions of Chapter 128, interest can be canceled on debts you choose to include in the case, provided you repay what you owe within 3 years. After teaching vocal music for eighteen years, Bret went to law school and graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 2008. Bret worked as a paralegal in Mark's office for about five years before passing the bar exam. He also interned with Mark while in law school and worked with many of Mark's clients. Today, Bret serves many clients from Grant, Crawford, Iowa, and Lafayette Counties, handling mostly consumer bankruptcy cases. Bret deals mainly with consumer bankruptcies, but also has experience with business bankruptcies. MARK BROMLEY is our senior partner and one of the most respected bankruptcy attorneys in Wisconsin. He practices from an office on his family's homestead at LaGrange, Wisconsin, near Elkhorn and Whitewater. Mark graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1977. From then until 2002, he practiced in Lancaster, Wisconsin. In addition to his bankruptcy practice, Mark also assists clients in resolving problems with the IRS and the Dept. of Revenue.
