Bureau of Communicable Diseases and Preparedness is responsible for the prevention and control of communicable diseases in Wisconsin. It offers programs to ensure that public health and hospital systems are fully prepared for bioterrorism, infectious disease outbreaks, and public health threats and emergencies. The bureau provides surveillance and epidemiological follow-ups of more than 70 reportable communicable diseases. It is also responsible for monitoring scientific advances in the field of communicable disease prevention and control research. It has four sections, including HIV and AIDS, communicable disease epidemiology, immunization and sexually transmitted diseases. Bureau of Communicable Diseases and Preparedness is located in Madison, Wis., and is operated by the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services.
