Forward Statue - Wisconsin Women's Memorial

The 'Forward' Statue is a prominent and cherished symbol of Wisconsin's devotion and progress. Created by sculptor Jean Pond Miner in 1893, this seven-foot tall allegorical statue represents the state's values and was originally placed at the Wisconsin State Capitol. After undergoing conservation treatment in 1990, the statue was relocated to an indoor location at the Wisconsin Historical Society's Headquarters building in 1998.

Wisconsin women played a significant role in the preservation of the 'Forward' Statue, raising funds for its creation in 1893 and later funding the creation of a bronze replica that is now displayed at the west entrance to Capitol Square. Led by Wisconsin's first lady Sue Ann Thompson and Camille Haney, these women ensured the long-term preservation of this iconic piece of art.
