Bristol, England

Brunel's Swivel Bridge, designed by I.K. Brunel in 1849, stands as Bristol's only abandoned structure by the renowned engineer. This Grade 2 listed bridge, featuring a hydraulic mechanism for rotation, was pivotal in the development of wrought iron bridge technology and represents a significant historical landmark in the city.

Originally constructed to span the South Entrance Lock in the Cumberland Basin, the bridge was relocated in 1872-73 and saw various upgrades, including a hydraulic machinery renewal in the early 1900s. After being decommissioned in 1968, it narrowly escaped demolition and remains a focal point of restoration efforts supported by various community organizations.
