Lewis & Clark Regional Water System is a pioneering tristate drinking water initiative serving southeast South Dakota, northwest Iowa, and southwest Minnesota, projected to benefit approximately 350,000 residents. Founded in 1990 and authorized by Congress in 2000, the project has faced numerous challenges over the years but is nearing completion with a base system capable of delivering 44.19 million gallons of water per day by 2028.

As of October 2024, all 20 member communities are connected, with the total estimated cost of the project set at $825 million. The system reflects a commitment to providing reliable water access, reminiscent of the trailblazing efforts of its namesakes, Lewis and Clark.
