Founded in 1963, Seattle Opera is one of the leading opera companies in the United States. The company is recognized internationally for its theatrical and musical performances. The company members include the stage crew, scenic studio workers, and hair and makeup artists. Its education department introduces opera to newcomers of all ages by producing nearly 400 individual events and activities each year. The department develops the next generation of opera patrons through its grade school and high school outreach programs. Its young artists program provides career guidance and training in all aspects of a career in opera, including the study of complete roles, acting skills, languages and diction, movement and fight choreography and theater arts.
